The FCX Clarity is the first fuel-cell powered vehicle for sale to the general public in the United States per Honda. Two hundred Honda FCX Clarity vehicles were produced and offered at 3 California dealerships under a lease program. Drivers shared that the Clarity driving experience was similar to the Honda Accord, and that the beautiful design was a key selling point.
When will the Honda FCX Clarity be for Sale
Honda has stated that the FCX Clarity would be put into mass production within a few years if a hydrogen infrastructure were built to make it practical. With the high cost of gas, this could be sooner rather than later, but a firm data has not been set.
How Does the Honda FCX Clarity Work
The Honda FCX Clarity uses an electric motor that is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell stack. Hydrogen is combined with oxygen in the fuel cell to generate electricity. The FCX Clarity is a zero emissions vehicle as the fuel cell reaction only creates water vapor. The Clarity also operates like a hybrid vehicle, capturing energy through regenerative brakes, which is then stored in a lithium ion battery pack for use by the electric motor.
The fuel cell stack, electric motor, and lithium ion battery are located in the center of the FCX Clarity chassis, which allowed Honda to create an incredibly roomy passenger cabin and a great view of the road for all passengers. With a very quiet ride, fantastic view, and a beautiful exterior, the Honda FCX Clarity is unique, fun to drive, and environmentally friendly.
